ARCUS Videos - 2005 to 2010

Here are some promotional outreach videos that I made for ARCUS (the Arctic Research Consortium of the US) for the Arctic Forum, and one for the State of the Arctic conference. They are all constructed from video and audio clips from previous Arctic Forums, various arctic photos, and the occasional animation of something. They are pretty cool, watch them and you might learn some arctic stuff.

State of the Arctic

This is the high definition video that I created for the State of the Arctic conference that was held in Miami, Florida. Since these ARCUS videos use mostly animations and animated photos, it wasn't a huge leap to make the movie in HD (in fact, I should have done this earlier for the Arctic Forum videos). There was a lot of positive feedback for this video, the conference was a success, and a decent percentage (20% to 30%) of the attendees didn't even have to fly to Miami -- they instead watched the live stream that we provided. You can watch it on Vimeo too if you like.

This is one of two outreach videos I made for ARCUS, for the 2005 Arctic Forum. This 2:04 minute version went up on the homepage for several months leading up to the meeting in May. I used the µ-Ziq's track 'Jason' from his album 'Lunatic Harness'. I probably shouldn't have, but the song worked so well, I just couldn't take it out. Plus it's a non-profit arctic scientist thing, with a very limited scientist audience.

ARCUS Arctic Forum 2005 v2

This is version two, of two outreach videos I made for ARCUS, for the 2005 Arctic Forum. This is the shorter version. It is edited to a different song and is a bit different. The track is by Plaid called 'Marry' from their album Spokes, and it is also fairly scandalous that I used it. This version never went up on the website though as far as I know. The longer version was probably more effective anyway.

ARCUS Arctic Forum 2006

Date: March 2006
Length: 2:32
File: 17.4MB Quicktime H.264 640X480 30fps, AAC 128kbps

Here is the 2006 outreach video I made for ARCUS, for the 2006 Arctic Forum. The video follows the ARCUS video style I have created, using audio/video clips, still photos, and a little bit of "in-the-field" video. I think this one came out pretty good. I used Ulrich Schnauss' excellent song, 'Gone Forever' from the album 'A Strangely Isolated Place', for a change.

ARCUS Arctic Forum 2007

Date: April 2007
Length: 2:58
File: 19.8MB Quicktime H.264 640X480 30fps, AAC 128kbps

This is the 2007 outreach video I made for ARCUS, for the 2007 Arctic Forum in Washington, DC. Hopefully it got some arctic scientists excited about attending the meeting, or maybe even got a couple more to attend, or got some to watch the live video stream from the comfort of their home or office. I once again used µ-Ziq's track 'Jason' from his album 'Lunatic Harness'.

ARCUS Arctic Forum 2008

Date: April 2008
Length: 3:23
File: 22.9MB Quicktime H.264 640X480 30fps, AAC 128kbps

Here is the 2008 outreach video I made for ARCUS, for the 2008 Arctic Forum in Washington, DC. Like the other ARCUS videos on this page, it was posted on the ARCUS homepage to advertise the meeting. I actually got a couple emails from arctic scientists, saying what a good video it was. I felt it was pretty similar to the previous years, but it was certainly nice to hear it was the "best one yet". I think it might have worked too -- we had 60 people watching our live stream of the meeting. And again, I used µ-Ziq's track 'Jason' from his album 'Lunatic Harness'.
